Costa Rica Update Week 6

¡Buenas Tardes!
I apologize that it has been some time since our last post.
Our week in Santa Cruz ended well, with meeting a canadian community service team on friday, going on a canopy tour on saturday, and just spending time with the officers and people from that corps!
We left there sunday evening to come here to San Jose Centro Modelo. It is an A.R.C.. It`s pretty chilly here, and the 60 degree-ish temperatures are playing around with our team and most of us are dealing with soar throats, stuffy noses and coughing, but we aren´t going to let it get us down. In the mornings we go downtown to Refugio Esperanza, it is the feeding center in the heart of the Capital and we love helping out there.
We are loving our last week and really making the best of it. We cannot believe the summer is almost over. God has really worked His way into everything we have done and are doing.

last week

We are heading into our last week here in Antigua...We are sad, but a little ready to be back home with you all!
We have been doing VBS for the past week and will continue to do VBS this coming week as well.
At the end of the week some of us got a little stomach flu, but all are recovering now and are ready for more VBS!!! :-)
\We have been split into two teams and have spent the last week at different corps, but will be switching this week so that we can experience both corps.
This week will be a lot of goodbyes. We have three homeleagues to say goodbye to, and they all mean a lot to us (even to the boys). This coming Sunday we will have our farewell in the morning at St. Johns corps and then at All Saints corps in the evening. It is going to be so hard to say goodbye to everyone but we understand that we have to go home.
This summer has been an amazing experience and we have all learned so much about ourselves and about God. He is bigger then anything we could have imagined and we could have done nothing with out Him! We are so thankful to the Majors Griffen for taking us in and making sure that we were taken care of.

hey guys! sorry it has taken so long to get a picture up! this is us at devil's bridge. Don't worry, we were very safe! We only have a week and a half left here and that is making us very sad because we have really become a family.
We had a wonderful week with the Iglehearts. It was weird for them to leave.
We experienced tag day, which means we went around the town of St. Johns and asked people to donate money to the Salvation Army. We brought along our instruments and the big drum and we raised over 700 dollars! Everyone was very generous!
We started VBS! We will be doing it for the next two weeks. But our team is split up into two groups so we feel as if half of us are missing for most of the day. We are really learning to work together well and are getting many things done! We are sweating for the Lord! haha!
We are really going to miss this place and the people of Antigua, but we are going to make the most of the last week we have here! So get ready! You will see us soon! But just to warn you, we are not the same people we were when we left you! God has changed each one of us! And we are SO HAPPY about that!!! Love you all! Miss you more! See you soon!

Costa Rica team - Week 5

We had a wonderful and full week in Nicoya, and we have now arrived in the city of Santa Cruz which is only a half-hour outside of Nicoya. The corps we are working at this week is probably the most well-off we´ve encountered. We have a week ahead of us full of gardening, painting, bible school, and night meetings. Joy will be joining us tomorrow and will stay with us until Saturday. We are all very excited to see her and have her with us!
Last night a prayer meeting was held. A man preached very passionately, and then said about a 30 minute long prayer. With the exception of Claudia, none of us knew what he was talking or praying about, but we loved it. It´s so cool to see God in others that you can´t communicate with. That´s something that´s been hard for some of us. We want to create relationships here so badly, and its difficult when you can´t talk with them, but, we do know we have one thing in common. We have the same God. The same God loving us, teaching us, and using us. And we are all in love with the same God.
That has proven to be enough to create a friendship with the officers and people we meet here.

Costa Rica Update

I don´t know if the picture shows up only half-way on all computers, but if it does, I´m sorry! (i don´t really know how to fix it.) I assure you all 8 of our team members are still around.
We are in the city of Nicoya now. The past two days have been full of painting - and lots of it. We actually had our day off today and went to another beautiful beach, and look forward to some walking downtown in a moment. Tomorrow and Saturday we look forward to some visitation times, and whatever other blessings our thrown our way.
This specific corps we are at now has apparently gone through some troubles in the recent years, and the corps officers have told us that there is close to no one that comes to any of the meetings or services. The most money the offering basket has seen since they´ve been there is about $6. They have told us that they have a lot of hope in our team being here with them that somehow it might draw people to come into the church.
While we were at lunch today in a restaurant near the beach, a man who worked there said he was looking for a church, and when the Captain invited him to come on sunday, he said he will see us there! How incredible is that! Not to mention that he lives nearly an hour away from the corps. God, you are just - wow.
I pray that whoever You bring into the church on sunday will see You there.
